Outstanding reports often come from the teams that manage their time and resources well. Most serious teams do a lot of good analysis but they often leave the integration of research by individual team members, forming a consistent point of view and report writing to the last minute. Needless to say that the evaluators and judges can grade you for what you write and present. 
Getting done with most of the secondary research before you get into the management calls and working towards being ready with a more of less shippable draft at least 7 days before the submission date may just make you a winner from an also-ran.
